Communication is definitely at the base of everything. Without communication, you can’t have an effective team. (And Beaconning a hunter on Magmaw is really unconventional, I’m curious as to what the reasoning behind that is.)

If you’re struggling with paladins who make strange beacon choices, I recommend you set your raid frames to track beacons. You probably won’t be able to identify who’s beacon is where, but you’ll be able to see and call out mysterious hunter beacons before it’s too late.

Good call about Marrowgar, totally didn’t think of that fight!

Well, in theory it was possible, there just wasn’t much point to it.

I could imagine beacon stacking being used in 10s on Halfus if you have 2 pally healers. I’ve only seen the fight on 25 man, though, so I don’t know if the damage patterns translate to make beacon stacking worthwhile.

There’s still the solo variant of cross-beaconing! But as a whole, yeah, I think you’d probably need a 25 man raid to really get the most out of beaconing strategies. Those it’s still possible for those in 10s who raid with another holy paladin.

Yeah, tank healing isn’t as easy as it was. But I kind of like it, makes me use my brain.

Haha! Most of the time, when I start a sentence with a “they say”, I’m totally bullshitting. It’s my way of gently mocking the use of sayings in blog posts. Besides, “they” could start saying that at ANY TIME.

As for beacon stacking, it was possible for most of Wrath (I think there were a few months at one point where beacons overwrote each other), but, yeah, usually there wasn’t much point to it. On single tank fights, it made sense for all the pallies to beacon the same person, but the rational was “beacon the tank and heal around” rather than beacon stacking for the sake of beacon stacking.

I’m the current heal lead for my guild, and I find our paladins have a tendancy to ignore the beacon assignment because they believe they know better – but don’t mention this until after the wipe and I’m asking why X died.
I don’t have a problem with input and suggestions, but when I’ve asked the raid healing paladin to beacon the current Magmaw tank, and he decides to beacon a hunter who is taking a lot of damage and the magmaw tank dies from avoidable damage…..let’s just say I got cranky and quite expressive about why he was going to do exactly as told.

I find that a lot of the healers I deal with haven’t taken the time to understand the fight and the incoming damage patterns. I have no clue how they think they can be effective.

We’ve used beacon stacking in ICC for the third tank on Marrowgar.
