They ended up dealing with the consulate and did not have to go the the embassey in Havana. It took them 4 days to get a temporary passport. The biggest issue they had was remembering 4 phone numbers of people who could Verify that they knew them and that they knew they were in Cuba. They made it home and did not let there ID go missing wreck there vacation. Your moving to alberta? I live in Northern Alberta it is amazing how many WOW blogers are Canadian :)

Ouch! That's horrible! I've heard of thefts out of hotel rooms (usually articles of clothing that weren't locked in a suitcase or safe) but that's way extreme!

Which region were they staying in? What did they do? Is the Canadian embassy looking after them? Did you hear who was responsible for the theft? Hotel staff or a breach in hotel security?

Luckily, I didn't have any problems like that! I had my passport on me at all times (I had one of those money belts that go under your clothes), but I kept my gadgets in my Varadero safe and all was good. I do keep a copy of my passport and other documents at my parents' house in Quebec, but thankfully I haven't needed to use them yet.

Thanks for dropping by!

And it was a very nice vacation. I hope to get a month, or at least 3 weeks, to visit next time. Cuba is such a beautiful country, I was sad to not have time to see much of it.

Have fun in cuba and watch your belongings. A friend of mine is there right now and had there hotel room safe riped off the wall, contents of safe included, money, cell phones, drivers licence and PASSPORTS. They have been working on getting some temporary documentation so they can get out of the country. So scan your ID and email it to yourself or have a photo copy of it at home. They had done this and it is the only thing that is saveing them right now.
