Blog Azeroth Needs Some New Mods and Other Topics

I’m not really resigning as a Blog Azeroth mod, but I realized that I can’t keep up with the Shared Topics anymore. And as a whole, we’d love some fresh new faces to help greet new members, encourage blogging events and answer questions. If this sounds like you, head over to this thread at Blog Azeroth (you’ll need to be logged in to see it).

I’d be especially happy if one of the Shared Topics regulars (I’m looking at you Aliera, at you Oathblade, at you Dragonray, at you Amerence, at you rest of you who participate often in Shared Topics – now’s your chance to make sure Topic get queued in a timely fashion and recaps get posted every week!) volunteered for the spot.

In other news, I have to admit that I have very little motivation in keeping up with this blog. Part of it is my working 60 hours a week, but most of it is that I just don’t want to make the time to update regularly.

Don’t be sad, though, I doubt much will really change here. I’ve been posting once a week or less for well over a year anyway. I’m just making it official. I’ll post when I have something to talk about, but I’m resigning from feeling the need to maintain the blog.

I am feeling the motivation to update my personal (otherwise known as Shrine-to-Myself) blog, so if, for whatever unfathomable reason, you take pleasure in reading me writing about myself, I’m hoping to blow some life into that corner of the internet. I would have done it sooner but each time I have something to write I tell myself: “No! You can’t update that until you update the WoW blog!” Which, most of the time, ends in neither blog being updated.

Maybe this way one of the blogs will be updated.

Drat. This is exactly like what happened with Oestrus. First she stopped participating in certain parts of WoW, then she got to the point where she acknowledged that if it wasn’t for raiding she would cancel her subscription, and then she did so. Although I very much hope that fate does not await this blog, I can comfort myself by knowing that you will still update at least one of your blogs.
On that note.. Hooray! You haven’t updated your personal blog in so long and there are some loose ends, such as the two stories you mentioned in your first post but still have not elaborated upon. I look forward to reading them and whatever other tidbits of adventure you post.

    • Ophelie Says:

Oestrus didn’t quit, she just went to a different game. She’s still blogging. Some of her posts are very Rift-theory heavy, but other posts are applicable to regardless of game.

I’m not leaving WoW, just acknowledging that I can’t update this blog regularly and I give up on all these promises of “once I graduate/move/settle down/start working I’ll write more.” I am pretty excited about being able to focus on the personal blog now.

      • Microscopic Says:

Oh, no! I did not mean that you were quitting WoW, just that the same gradual distancing that Oestrus did to playing WoW was happening with you and WoW blogging (that you will eventually stop completely). I have read all of Oestrus’ posts since her decision to begin playing Rift. Now that I re-read my comment I can see where I might have been unclear, and I’m sorry that I made you misunderstand.

You are a highly skilled medical professional now. I would be surprised if you DID have time to update the blog as much as you used to. I will still keep an eye out for when you write, however. And yes, I follow the “shrine” as well. I am jealous that you get to go to fun places like Cuba, while I “get” to see places like Afghanistan πŸ˜‰

    • Ophelie Says:

I wanted to go to Afghanistan but they wouldn’t let me!

Usually when I’m working I have a lot more free time than when I’m a student (though as a student, my schedule was more flexible) but I’m still at that stage where I get really excited to see money going into my bank account. So I’ve been picking up all the hours and extra shifts I can manage. At this rate, I expect to have my car and student loans paid off by the end of the year, but at the expense of my WoW life 😦

Blah…is all I can say πŸ™‚ I am going to have to start reading your personal blog just for shits and giggles.

I would offer to look after the Shared Topics on BA, but in all honesty I am not sure I can do it well enough. I spend over 5 hours travelling a day with no internet access until I get home, on top of my normal work day….

However I may see what i can wrangle in the next week or so to see if I can drop an hour somewhere to help out?

I’m new here but as I said on twitter I really love reading your blog but totally understand time pressures and the desire to focus on the more personal blog. Best to do one thing you really want to do than spread yourself too thin and end up not doing anything you want to do. But I will miss reading your WoW insights πŸ™‚

Regardless of your wishes, I’m a little sad. However, I certainly understand how work (and sometimes lack thereof) can get in the way of blogging; if I was working a full-time teaching job, I’d probably be done for as well.

It’s good to hear you’re keeping busy, and I’m sure we’ll all be waiting to hear from you when you’ve got the time, initiative, and inspiration. Until then, be well!

  6. AliPally Says:

I always drop in on your blog, as much for your non-WoW comments as the Paladin musings. Anyway, I hope to keep reading your thoughts, either here or elsewhere, and don’t ever feel that you HAVE to post. πŸ™‚

    Heya Ophelie!

Thanks for mentioning me, Im honored you see that on us that we are one of the regular shared topic responder. I would be willing to do this, I had experience moderating and given a job as a guild site and forum admin from previous and current guild that I managed regularly until this day. I always check BA everyday to check what topics are shared so I can participate too. But If given a chance to do it, I will try my best to update forums on Shared Topic regularly but like Dragonray was saying we don’t know if we will do well but that is up to the BA administrators and You of course! =) Again, Thank you! =)

The Great “Real Life” time factor! I completely relate to needing to evaluate our priorities and what we can truthfully committ to. I had a small break from March to September in my writing on the blog, but when I came back it was refreshing to get back into it. Take heart, we all enjoy your writings and will miss this blog being a source of enlightement of all things WoW and musings. Please dont delete the blog though, definately have some great posts and guides to other thoughtful writers as well. May time be with us all.

    • Ophelie Says:

      Aww thanks!

No worries, I’ll never delete the blog. Maybe one day wordpress will prune it for inactivity, but until then it’s safe :). I also hope to update one of the days. I have these great post written in my head (at least it’s great in my head, no idea what it’ll be like on the computer), but with being so tired from work, I can’t get it together enough to type out. But I’m sure I will someday!
